Review a general outline for the three days.
It is our goal in the three day training to teach you about the core CommonSpot feature/functionality, but also to share with you in a hands-on atmosphere best practices in implementing and maintaining a CommonSpot site. PaperThin and our partners also offer a formal End-User training program. For more information on this option, contact your PaperThin account manager.
What To Have Ready For Training
CommonSpot provides a great deal of flexibility in the design of a site. To make the best use of the tools and functionality that CommonSpot provides, proper planning is essential. To ensure the most efficient use of time during on-site training, we recommend that the following be completed in advance of the training dates:
- Graphic designs and HTML mock-ups
Having a clear plan for the look and feel of your site is vital to getting up and running quickly. Prior to Jump Start training, you should have finalized site design details including images, layouts, design elements, wire frames, etc. Your design and layout will determine where and how dynamic CommonSpot elements are implemented within your site.
- Site audiences and content contributor groups
It is important to know who will be using your site in order to ensure that users have access to the right content. The profile of the different audiences will be used as the basis for personalizing site content. In addition, thinking through which individuals need to participate in the process of creating, editing, and approving content will determine the user accounts and groups that need to be created in CommonSpot.
- Preliminary site directory structure
A preliminary site structure is important in determining the appropriate site/subsite hierarchy for the Website, and form the foundation for site security.
- Site navigation
Although site navigation can follow the site directory structure, it does not need to be this way. Outlining and reviewing the site navigation structure before training can help show the desired paths you wish users to follow when accessing your site. With a clear view of your proposed site, the PaperThin trainer can recommend the best use of features such as dynamic elements, custom metadata, and document categories for navigation.
- Custom applications
Are you planning to integrate other applications on your site? Application integration is a key piece to the successful implementation of a site. Knowing the types of applications, their audience, dependencies, scale, etc. will assist in developing a strategy for integration.
- Database schemas for system against which you may want to authenticate users
Many organizations opt to implement an authentication scheme that leverages their own internal user id/password data source. Further, they sometimes retrieve additional information about the authenticated user for a variety of uses. Knowing the data structures available speeds the implementation of this feature within CommonSpot.
