Content Management Vendor PaperThin Announces New Education Customers
Boston, MA (September 23, 2002) — PaperThin, Inc., a leading mid-market Web publishing and content management system vendor, today announced that several education organizations have recently selected its award-winning CommonSpot™ Content Server 3.0 software to manage their Internet and intranet sites. New implementations of CommonSpot are underway at Babson College (Wellesley, MA), the California Department of Education (Sacramento, CA), the College of Notre Dame of Maryland (Baltimore, MD), Kent State University (Kent, OH), National-Louis University (Wheeling, IL), Ohio University (Athens, OH), Rhodes College (Memphis, TN), and Treasure Valley Community College (Ontario, OR).
Deploying CommonSpot is helping these educational institutions manage their Web sites more effectively and affordably. The solution is designed to allow for the centralized administration of many different departmental sites -- to take advantage of features such as security, site and user administration capabilities, personalization of content, and a consistent look and feel -- but also allow for decentralized updating of content by the individual departments across campus.
CommonSpot also provides an easy framework for non-technical staff to contribute content directly to the Web site, in a controlled environment. According to Bob Johnson, Dean of Information Services at Rhodes College, a private liberal arts college, “We are excited about the speed and ease with which CommonSpot will enable us to safely and efficiently offer content contribution capabilities to users across campus, and the value this broad participation will bring to all of our Web audiences."
In evaluating solutions, Johnson noted that, “CommonSpot offers robust, 'out-of-the-box’ functional flexibility and thus a shorter implementation time, and less reliance on custom components built by professional service vendors than other products we reviewed. PaperThin's proactive workflow components, content scheduling and 'freshness reminders’ -- along with ready-made dynamic navigation and syndication components -- brought the product to the forefront for Rhodes. We were also able to leverage an existing partnership with consultant Ringger Interactive (www.ringger.com), providing local CommonSpot implementation and support services.” In addition, the college was impressed by CommonSpot's forward-thinking support of common Web standards and Section 508 accessibility compliance, according to Johnson.
“One of the challenges of deploying any technology campus-wide is getting the support of different departments. With CommonSpot, the departments are able to maintain control over their content,” noted Todd Peters, president of PaperThin, Inc. “By listening to our customers and working in partnership with them to develop the functionality they need, we’ve been able to deliver a solution that specifically addresses the requirements of the education market.”
